About Acupuncture

Acupuncture points are specific areas on the body just beyond the surface of the skin. They have high concentrations of nerve endings, mast cells, lymphatic vessels, and capillaries. When an acupuncture needle is inserted into an acupuncture point, it stimulates the sensory receptor, which in turn stimulates the nerve, which then transmits impulses to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system.

This complex system of interactions (often called a “feedback loop”) between the brain, hormones, and glands is responsible for regulating a number of bodily processes.

Because acupuncture helps to regulate the various feedback loops in your body, it actually allows your body to heal itself of whatever is out of balance. This amazing trait is unique to nearly every other medical system, and has sustained acupuncture as a complete system of medicine for over 3,000 years.

I’m Soo!

Hi there! I’m Soo Uhm (she/hers/her), an acupuncture practitioner who holds a Master of Science in Acupuncture from Tristate College of Acupuncture. Specializing in the Kiiko Matsumoto Style of Acupuncture (KMS), I use palpation as a principle means of diagnosis to help alleviate and treat a host of issues. My primary motivation is building rapport with you, the patient. You are the ultimate expert on your body, and working together to identify areas of healing helps me determine an individualized treatment plan for you.

Treatments

I practice the Kiiko Matsumoto Style of Acupuncture (KMS), a Japanese style of acupuncture taught at Harvard Medical School. KMS acupuncture prioritizes the relationship between the acupuncturist and patient, using palpation to gauge a patient’s physical response to perform the ideal treatment. I combine KMS acupuncture with holistic healing methods to treat various patient concerns, from everyday aches and pains to chronic and systemic issues, including:

  • Fertility (IVF treatment support; preparing the body to achieve pregnancy)

  • Women’s Health and Menstrual Support

  • Pain Management

  • Headaches & Migraine Relief (Concussions)

  • Mental Health (Anxiety, Depression, and Grief Support)

  • Everyday Discomforts (aches and pains)

  • Chronic Disorders (Tinnitus, IBS, High Blood Pressure)
